Abstract
Clifford Shattuck, the Lincolnville motel owner who settled a civil rights complaint over his treatment of two Israeli tourists in June, has filed suit against Waldo County Sheriff's Department sergeant Gregory Stearns, who investigated the incident. Shattuck claims that Stearns' comments to the news media were untrue and defamatory, and is seeking $125,000 in damages. Shattuck last month pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly conduct stemming from the incident, and agreed to pay a $3,000 penalty in Knox County Superior Court and pledged not to violate anyone's civil rights.
