Abstract

Arbitrator Richard G. Higgins said that the denial of tenure to former University of Maine at Machias history professor Richard Nelson was unfair, and he should be reinstated. Higgins concluded the denial was because some of his colleagues and superiors disliked Nelson, and said that alleged problems in Nelson's professional relationship with department members had not been adequately substantiated.
