Abstract

Hannaford Bros. Co., Shaw's Supermarkets Inc. and Cumberland Farms have all dropped the prices of their store-brand milk by 16 cents per gallon. The move is in response to this month's 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that Maine's vendor's fee on milk is unconstitutional. The fee, instituted in 1991, fluctuated between zero and 16 cents per gallon, and averaged seven cents per gallon, during the time it was in effect.
