Abstract

L.L. Bean on Friday will open a two-story, 11,000-square-foot store in the Tokyo suburb of Kichijoji, part of its plan to build five retail stores in Japan by 1997. Bean's catalog sales in Japan in 1993 were $60 million, as compared to $14 million in 1991. The new store looks something like a miniature version of the company's Freeport outlet, and includes a trout pond and on-site parking.
