Abstract

The Maine Department of Transportation is insisting that Phineas Sprague Jr., president of the Maine Narrow Gaugue Railroad Co. & Museum, personally protect the state from potential liabilities incurred by the group's trains. Sprague and MDOT were close to a compromise yesterday. The museum has only around half of the 1,700 ties needed to lay 3,400 feet of track from India Street to Fish Point, and none of the thousands of tons of gravel that will support the tracks, but Sprague still feels the trains will be running by December.
