Abstract

Michael Willings, 24, of Portland, and Richard Corbett, 33, a transient, last night escaped from the old Cumberland County Jail on Federal Street in Portland. Willings, a low-security trustee at the jail, wheeled a trash barrel out to a dumpster while accompanied by a jail guard, and after reaching the dumpster Corbett leaped out of the barrel and the two men ran away. Inmates two years ago used a trash barrel to escape, and jail policy says that guards must examine the contents of trash barrels. Details.
