Abstract

Dr. John R. McGill, a Bangor plastic surgeon and the new president of the Maine Medical Association, said that health maintenance organizations owned by doctors would offer reasonable payments to physicians while being more sensitive to the needs of patients than HMOs owned by insurance companies. The MMA, which represents around 60 percent of the state's physicians, has hired Medical Mutual Insurance Co. of Maine to study the concept. A report is expected early next year. Details.
