Abstract
Some 2,000 to 3,000 Mainers have made competitive shooting their sport, and, according to the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine, around 90 percent of competitive shooters also hunt. The federal crime bill passed recently by both houses of Congress and scheduled for signing this week by President Clinton makes it illegal to purchase 19 firearms defined in the bill as assault weapons. A number of those weapons are favorites of competitive shooters, and some shooters are concerned they will lose the right to own firearms. Details.
