Abstract

W. Godfrey Wood, president of the Portland Pirates hockey team, in a letter to Portland Mayor Richard W. Paulson Jr. asked the city council to consider the team's opposition to a proposed off-track betting parlor before approving the facility. Scarborough Downs owner Joseph Ricci wants to install off-track betting machines in J. R. Flanagan's, a restaurant across the street from the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Pirates feel the parlor would detract from the family atmosphere the team projects. Details.
