Abstract

A 600-pound bull moose on Tuesday died after it leapt from the Route 201 overpass onto Interstate 95 in Topsham. The Topsham Police Department had the moose removed from the interstate, and arranged for the meat to be processed and distributed to people within the police department. More than 20 irate citizens called the department after learning of its plans, demanding to know why the meat wasn't being donated to charities or needy families. police chief Paul Lessard yesterday said the meat would be ground up and distributed to church groups and soup kitchens.
