Abstract

The McKernan administration yesterday announced that a $27 million state surplus has been pared down to less than $4 million because of laws that automatically funnel surplus money into several different accounts. The transfers include $13.3 million into the state's Rainy Day Fund; $2.6 million for the establishment of quality centers at the six existing and one planned campuses of the Maine Technical College System; and more than $3 million in property-tax relief to muncipalities.
