Abstract
Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Ray Owen this week began a series of public meetings around the state to gauge the reaction of anglers to his "Quality Fishing Initiative," which would make it harder to take home fish from around 80 percent of the state's lakes and ponds and 45 miles of rivers and streams. Owen has proposed increasing minimum lengths, reducing bag limits and creating more catch-and-release areas on certain waters. The stricter regulations would give fish a chance to grow larger, but would also mean more fishermen would have to release their catch. Details.
