Abstract

Maine Department of Environmental Protection officials say gubernatorial candidates are unjustly criticizing the agency, prompting it to mail materials to the candidates and the media to refute the criticism. The DEP says much of the criticism was relying on outdated facts about the agency's performance, and candidates failed to consider that the agency has been a leader among state agencies in the Total Quality Management program implemented under Gov. McKernan. Details.
