Abstract

U.S. District Judge William Cambridge yesterday overturned the death sentence of John Joubert, 31, the Portland native convicted of murdering two Nebraska boys in 1983. Cambridge ruled that part of the Nebraska law under which Joubert was sentenced was unconstitutionally vague. Joubert could be sentenced agains to death, but unless he is resentenced within 60 days his sentence will change to life in prison. Joubert in 1990 was convicted in Maine for the 1982 slaying of 11-year-old Ricky Stetson of Portland. Details.
