Abstract

The Portland Planning Board yesterday postponed a decision on allowing American Veterans Post 25 to erect a memorial on the Eastern Promenade to honor Korean War hero Charles J. Loring Jr. because neither the veterans group nor the designers attended the meeting. Loring, a Portland native, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. The memorial was first proposed two years ago, but concerns over its design and construction have delayed plans.
