Abstract

Anna Fournier's sixth-grade pupils at St. Joseph's Parish School want the new Portland-South Portland Bridge to be named after native Portlander Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. State representative Herb Adams this week delivered letters from the pupils to Maine Transportation Commissioner Dana Connors. An MDOT spokesman said that his department believes the naming of the bridge is a matter for the state Legislature. The city councils of Portland and South Portland have both been unwilling to get involved with naming the bridge. Details.
