Abstract

A survey by the Boston office of William M. Mercer Inc. shows that Portland workers received an average 4 percent pay raise in 1994, compared to a 3.7 percent raise in 1993. The average worker in New England and the U.S. as a whole received 4.2 percent pay raises in 1994, as compared to 4.6 percent and 4.5 percent respectively in 1993.Mercer, an international compensation and benefits consulting firm, based its conclusions on interviews with 2,980 organizations.
