Abstract

Paul Sykes, 25, in 1989 was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to seven counts of gross sexual assault and six counts of unlawful sexual contact, all involving three boys between the ages of nine and 11. The judge suspended six years of the sentence, and Sykes ended up serving around 3 1/2 years. Under the terms of his probation, he was not to have contact with anyone under 18 years of age, but he has since admitted to contacting underage youths via computer bulletin boards. His case is the first sign in Maine that sexual predators might be using computers to lure their victims. Details.
