Abstract

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum on Friday signed a lease with the Maine Department of Transportation allowing it to run a train along the abandoned rail bed at the base of Portland's Eastern Promenade. The railroad now needs a building permit from the city, but can't get one until it works out a plan to make payments to the city in lieu of taxes. The railroad agreed to the payments last year when it obtained a $75,000 loan from the Downtown Portland Corp. Details.
