Abstract

U.S. shipments of labels and wrappers over the past three years have more than doubled, from $900 million in 1991 to an estimated $2 billion this year. The increased demand in specialty papers comes at a good time for the S. D. Warren mill in Westbrook, since more than half its production is specialy paper. The mill has its own pulp mill, and a top-notch research division, but is also the oldest coated paper mill in the country, with an inefficient layout. Details.
