Abstract

U.S. Windpower, a subsidiary of Kenetech Windpower, has reached agreement with several environmental groups over its proposal to erect up to 760 wind turbines in the Boundary Mountains along the Maine-Quebec border. Plans call for 47 corridors of grouped turbines running along 30.5 miles of ridgeline on Caribou and Kibby mountains and the Kibby Range. Central Maine Power Co. and Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. have both expressed interest in purchasing the wind-produced energy, which will sell for around five cents a kilowatt-hour. Details.
