Abstract

U.S. District judge Morton A. Brady denied a request by John Atwood, commisssioner of the Maine Department of Public Safety, and Andrew Demers Jr., chief of the Maine State Police, to dismiss a lawsuit brought against them in the shooting death of Katherine Hegarty. John Hegarty of Jackman contends that Katherine Hegarty's civil rights were violated when she was shot by police during a brief standoff in May 1992.
