Abstract

Supporters of LD 246, a bill which would extend protection from discrimination to homosexuals and bisexuals in Maine, warned opponents and Governor John R. McKernan that sending the proposal to referendum to be decided by voters could trigger the kinds of negative campaigns that tarnished the images of Colorado and Oregon last fall. The governor has again threatened to veto the measure, which is expected to receive final Senate approval next week.
