Abstract

Supporters of Harvey Prager, 46, say that he provided compassionate care for AIDS victims in his West End home in Portland, but critics claim he has exploited the AIDS epidemic in a ploy to avoid a prison term for drug smuggling. Prager's recent appointment as a law clerk to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court has generated much debate about his fulfillment of the terms of his 1988 alternative sentence.
