Abstract

A spokeswoman at the Maine State Retirement System said that the number of people calling the agency to inquire about early retirement has increased drastically since Gov. McKernan proposed making significant changes to the system. Early retirement means a loss in benefits, but potential cuts in the program could mean that early retirement is an economically sound choice.
