Abstract

Maine is taking steps to close the legal loopholes that have allowed senior citizens to give their estates to their heirs and depend on Medicaid for their medical care. Beginning in the fall, the state will scrutinize the bank accounts of elderly residents who apply for Medicaid, and will begin filing claims on the estates of deceased Medicaid recipients in the spring.
