Abstract

York Hospital has the shortest average stay of any of Maine's 42 hospitals for women giving birth, and has the lowest average charge for maternity ward stays of hospitals in southern Maine. The short-stay maternity program, called Great Beginnings, starts shortly after the woman becomes pregnant, and begins with the building of a relationship between the expectant mother and the hospital staff.
