Abstract
Dr. Kathleen Gensheimer, state epidemiologist, recently proposed emergency legislation to overturn Maine's six-year-old ban on irradiated foods. Irradiation, which is intended to destroy insects and bacteria and lengthen the shelf life of foods, has been endorsed by the American Medical Association, the World Health Organization and other groups.
