Abstract

A plan by Regional Waste Systems to develop a regional recycling center and landfill in Gorham has drawn criticism because of high development and anticipated operating costs, but the project is gaining momentum nonetheless because of what is seen by many as a lack of viable alternatives. The facility, which could end up costing $16 million, was endorsed by the RWS recycling committee earlier this month, and could be operating by next year. Details, list of RWS members, related story.
