Abstract
Out of 14 traffic accidents reported to Cape Elizabeth police in 1992, more than a third involved collisions with deer, resulting in $67,500 in damage. The deer population is estimated at 700 head, or 50 deer per square mile, much more than the 18 deer per square mile which the state considers a healthy level. Many acknowledge the herd must be thinned, but don't know how to go about it. Details, including graph.
