Abstract

Officials of Long Island, which is still five weeks away from icorporating as the state's newest town, poured a 10-foot by 40-foot concrete slab for a trash transfer station, but failed to get approval from the state and the city of Portland before doing so. A specialist with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection is scheduled to meet with island officials Wednesday to correct the situation.
