Abstract

Sen. William Cohen, R-Maine, in a letter to federal Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala, expressed concern about Gov. McKernan's plan for cutting Medicaid expenditures as a partial way to bridge the budget gap. Cohen urged Shalala to proceed cautiously in considering a Maine request for a waiver that would allow the state to reduce what it pays out to subsidize nursing home care.
