Abstract

After months of wrangling, the Legislature and the McKernan administration are beginning to realize that they can't produce a new budget without some new taxes. The $270 million package of temporary taxes approved at the height of the recession is st to expire, and many legislators are indicating that they are ready to consider new taxes to avert specific cuts in the administration's proposed budget.
