Abstract

After nearly having been closed by University of Maine officials in 1991 for holding an illegal party while on parole for alcohol violations, Sigma Chi fraternity is on the mend. The alcohol-free house, recently spent $250,000 on renovations and now has 18 members, with a 14-member pledge class this fall. Local chapter leaders believe that the alcohol-free house represents the wave of the future, a view which is not universally shared, however.
