Abstract

Gov. McKernan proposed $125 million in state pension cuts to balance his budget for the next two years, replacing the $150 million in cuts he had proposed for social service programs but conceded were illegal or unworkable. The Maine State Employees Association has indicated it will sue the state if the pension system cuts are implemented. Details, related article.
