Abstract

State and federal environmental agencies have been sampling and studying a 56-acre pole yard owned by Central Maine Power Co. since an oily sheen was reported in 1990, but a final report on cleanup needs has still not been issued. A spill of thousands of gallons of the wood preservative creosote in the 1940s is believed responsible for much of the site's contamination.
