Abstract

The state's official portrait of Joshua Chamberlain, four-time governor of Maine and a Civil War hero, has been hanging in a conference room in the State House for the past 10 years. Recent interest in Chamberlain has resulted in suggestions that the portrait belongs in a more prominent location in the State House, but no decision on where to hang it has been made yet. Details.
