Abstract

Engineered Automation Inc. of Scarborough was started by Jim Robinson and Steve Swinburne after the company they were working for, Shape Inc. of Biddeford, went bankrupt in November 1988. EAM makes custom-designed, automated machines, and Swinburne estimates that the company is providing half the world's market for those machines. The bankruptcy of Shape resulted in the startup of at least two other companies, Automation Design Associates in Biddeford and First Light Technology in Saco. Details.
