Abstract

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Ray Owen proposed a Quality Fishing Initiative, which would tighten length and creel limits in some areas and set aside some of the best areas for catch-and-release fishing. The initiative was scaled back after several acrimonious hearings and vociferous objections from ice and bait fishermen. Owens' department this week announced the second round of reforms, but opposition is emerging from both the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine and the Millinocket Fin & Feather Club. Details.
