Abstract
The Old Orchard Beach Town Council last month ordered the Hobo Jungle, an alcohol-free coffee shop, to have a police officer on premises three nights each week. The new restrictions come in response to a series of complaints from neighboring businesses, and continue a feud that began last summer. Supporters of the Hobo Jungle say the establishment is being singled out because of its clientle. Town Manager James Bennett said the Hobo Jungle contributes to the town's honky-tonk image, and maintains that the shop's patrons have shown little interest in allowing peace and quiet late at night.
