Abstract
The Portland Newspapers is requiring its carriers to travel to central warehouses to pick up their papers, and no one under age 18 is allowed in the warehouses. The Portland warehouse will open next week, the seventh and last to open. The move to eliminate all carriers under 18 is being criticized by many, who say that maintaining a paper route teaches young people work ethics and self-discipline. Eric Anderson, 17, of Portland, who has been delivering the Portland Press Herald for six years, said all of his customers say they will stop getting the paper when he is replaced with an adult.
