Abstract

U.S. represenative Thomas H. Andrews and U.S. Senator William S. Cohen have filed bills in Congress that would create a National Maritime Trust that would use money from the scrapping of merchant marine ships to offer grants to maritime-preservation and education projects across the country. The National Park Service claims that there is a backlog of maritime projects totaling between $80 million and $150 million.
