Abstract

Federal regulations allow mentally disabled individuals to reside in subsidized housing for the elderly, and as more of the mentally ill leave institutions they are increasingly moving into apartments that formerly were occupied almost exclusively by the elderly -- The elderly claim that the non-elderly tenants are intimidating, but advocates for the mentally disabled say people with mental illness need subsidized housing as much, and possibly more, than the elderly -- Details
