Abstract

FedEx Corp. yesterday began construction on a $1 million, 19,200-square-foot air cargo facility at the Portland International Jetport, which will help the company meet sharply growing demand in Maine. The company's air freight grew 20 percent last year, and is expected to increase a further 15 percent this year. FedEx moves 25,000 pounds of freight out of Portland each night, and recently replaced United Parcel Service as the carrier for L.L. Bean.
