Abstract

Maine has around 100 independent alternative energy plants that burn waste or are powered by water, and they supply 40 percent of the state's electricity -- Central Maine Power Co (CMP) years ago entered into contracts with many of those plants, but the utility now says the price of independent power has become too high -- CMP has drafted a proposed law to tax the excess money collected by the independent power producers, with revenue from the tax going to offset rising electric rates -- Details
