Abstract

Maine has been awarded a $2 million federal grant to fund an innovative proposal to help prepare high-school students for the workplace. The grant will finance the comprehensive statewide Career Opportunities 2000 program, which will provide non-college-bound students with six pathway programs, including Youth Apprenticeship, Pre-Apprenticeship, Tech Prep, Occupational Prep, Cooperative Education, and Career Preparation. Students who complete one of the pathway programs and graduate from high school will be able to enrolled in a linked program at the Maine Technical College System to obtain a certificate of skill mastery or an associate degree.
