Abstract

The average length of time it takes to sell a home in southern Maine has declined from around 200 days during the recession to 166 days in 1993 to 145 days for the 6-month period ending February 25, and industry observers say the fear of climbing interest rates is sparking the market. Mortgage rates have increased almost one percent in the past month, but analysts say an increase in the number of first-time buyers is also contributing to the surge in activity. Details, related article, market numbers for the past four years.
