Abstract

The Maine Health Program was created in the late 1980s in order to extend health insurance to the state's working poor and their children. Over the past 3 1/2 years, it has made a difference in the lives of thousand of Mainers. The program expired last week, but some of the lessons learned while it was in place could aid the special commission created to recommend ways to bring health care to all Mainers by 1997.
