Abstract

Last month, newspapers and television stations reported that the Leroy Smith grade school in Winterport was secluding disorderly students in a stall-like, 4-foot-by-6-foot-by-8-foot compartment at the school. The box, in which eight students were placed during a sixth-month period, has since been dismantled, but many residents of Winterport feel the accusations concerning the box and media attention have smeared the entire town.
