Abstract

A truck-to-train intermodal terminal being planned for Auburn and expected to open this summer will allow the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad Co. to compete directly with trucks for business from companies across the state. The Auburn terminal is one of three planned for Maine. It will offer shippers much lower costs for reaching distant markets. It should also reduce traffic and air pollution by diverting long-haul trucks from the roads to the rails. Details.
